DEPOSITINDEX

Methodology: How Deposit Index Collects and Verifies Data

Every number on this site is the output of the same automated pipeline. This page documents it.

Collection

A collector reads published live rental offers country by country. For every car it records the deposit amount and whether one is required, the accepted deposit payment methods (cash, debit card, credit card, cryptocurrency), the excess (franchise), mileage terms, and the driver requirements (minimum age, licence tenure). As of 2026-07-29 the index tracks 7844 unique offers across 20 countries.

Update cycle

The full dataset is re-collected weekly. Aggregates are recomputed from scratch on every cycle - nothing is carried over or manually edited. Each page displays the date of the cycle that produced its numbers as a VERIFIED stamp. If a country temporarily returns no data, the previous verified figures remain published with their original date rather than being replaced by guesses.

Aggregation rules

Amounts are published as ranges (minimum - maximum) with medians, in USD. Offers are grouped by car class using the classification of the source offers: economy, comfort sedan, SUV and crossover, premium and sports. City-level cuts count every offer available for pickup or delivery in that city, which is why delivery-based markets show similar fleets across cities - that is a property of the market, not a data error.

Known limitations

The index covers offers published through booking platforms by local suppliers; walk-in desk rates and international chains distributing exclusively through their own channels are outside the dataset. Percentages describe the tracked market, not every car in the country. The binding conditions for any specific rental are those in its booking voucher.
